A Star Decorators

06 / coatings

Epoxy and polyurethane floor coatings for warehouses and commercial floors.

Epoxy, polyurethane and chemical resistant floor systems for warehouses, distribution centres and commercial premises, and resin floors for residential garages and workshops. The system is matched to the substrate, the traffic load and how much downtime you can give us. The same standard we hold on commercial contracts, with a cure window that gets you back on the floor fast.

When this is the right route

  • The existing slab is sound but the surface is breaking down, dusting or failing hygiene checks.
  • Hygiene, chemical resistance or heavy traffic load drives the specification.
  • Downtime is expensive. The programme and cure schedule need to be agreed in writing before mobilisation.
  • You want a resin garage floor that resists hot tyre pickup and will not peel or lift after the first summer.
  • Your garage or workshop floor is dusty, pitted or stained and you want a dust free, easy clean resin surface.

Scope · included

  • Substrate moisture and cohesion testing
  • Shot blast or diamond grind preparation
  • Epoxy or polyurethane system selection to load and use
  • Slip resistant aggregate and line marking where required
  • Residential garage floor grinding, priming and resin coating
  • Dust free diamond grinding preparation suitable for attached garages and occupied homes
  • Hot tyre resistant epoxy or polyurethane system rated for private vehicle use, with an anti slip option

Scope · not included

  • Slab repair beyond surface preparation
  • Vehicle access ramp construction
  • Structural floor works
  • Domestic decorating or timber floor works outside the resin floor area

Process

  1. 01

    Survey

Substrate moisture test (Tramex or hygrometer), cohesion check, traffic load assessment, chemical exposure inventory, downtime window. The cure schedule is agreed before specification, not after.

  2. 02

    Specification

System selected by substrate, load class and use: epoxy screed for heavy forklift traffic, polyurethane for food environments and thermal cycling, chemical resistant PU where required. Slip resistant aggregate grade specified if needed. Cure schedule set to the system, not the client's preferred weekend.

  3. 03

    RAMS

RAMS written for the project including ventilation plan, pedestrian and forklift exclusion zones during application and cure, COSHH for solvent and catalyst components.

  4. 04

    Delivery

Shot blast or diamond grind substrate, vacuum clean, apply primer, lay system coats to specified film build, broadcast aggregate if in spec, cure, line mark.

  5. 05

    Handover

As applied record (product batch, film thickness readings, application temperatures), slip resistant classification where applicable, cleaning and maintenance regime.

Built for the people who buy decorating

Three audiences. One delivery model.

We are a specialist subcontractor, not a turnkey fit out outfit. We deliver decorating, spraying, restoration and coatings under main contractors and direct estate teams.

For main contractors

Hands on decorating. On time, every time, snags closed before handover.

Variations priced ahead of the request. Per store handover record. Handover with every snag closed. We run the way you run.

  • Active main contractor framework relationships
  • Variations priced ahead of the request, paperwork on the day it is due
  • Per zone handover record across multi store programmes

For estate + FM teams

Live trading stays live. Restoration before replacement.

Survey to handover without closing the unit. Powder coat restoration with a 5-7 year service life. Run off, masking and reopening tracked store by store.

  • Out of hours + phased delivery on rolling estate programmes
  • Photo led handover record per store / per elevation
  • DOFF, chemical and jet wash cleaning ahead of any coating

For retail estate leads

Brand consistency, store by store, on the date you promised.

Brand matched paint stacks against the estate spec. KPI reporting per store. Programme that survives shopfit slippage instead of inheriting it.

  • Multi store rolling programmes. KPI reported nightly
  • Brand matched Dulux Trade specifications
  • Repeat work relationships across Primark · Tesco · M&S

Find the right route

Domestic, retail or industrial.

Most visitors arrive with a sector problem before they know the coating system. These routes match the way buyers search: home and residential work, retail fit out programmes, and industrial painting or warehouse coatings.

Frequently asked

  • How long is the cure before forklift traffic?

Walk on is typically 12-24 hours. Forklift ready is typically 5-7 days, depending on system and temperature. Confirmed in writing per scheme.

  • Can you include slip resistant?

Yes. Aluminium oxide, glass bead or quartz aggregate broadcast into the topcoat. Slip resistance rating to the specified class.

  • Will it survive heavy forklift traffic?

Yes, with the right system. We specify to the actual traffic load class, not a generic warehouse spec.

  • Can it be done over a weekend?

Some systems can, some can't. It depends on substrate moisture, ventilation and the cure rate. We agree the realistic handover at survey, based on the actual cure time.

  • What warranty comes with the floor?

System dependent. Most schemes ship with a manufacturer backed warranty where we are the approved applicator.

  • How long after installation can I drive my car onto the garage floor?

Light foot traffic is usually fine after 24 hours and full vehicle loading after 48 to 72 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. We confirm the exact cure window for your system and site in writing before we start. Fast cure options can bring vehicle access under 24 hours where you need it.

  • Will hot tyres damage the resin floor?

No, with the right system. We specify hot tyre resistant resin, typically a high build polyurethane or epoxy, that takes the heat and plasticiser migration from warm tyres without softening, staining or lifting. It is the same chemistry we run in commercial loading bays and service yards where vehicles work daily.
