Who we are

This site is run by A Star Decorators Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 09817742. Our registered office is 321 Alder Road, Poole, Dorset BH12 5BH. We are the controller of the personal data described here, which means we decide how it is used. You can reach us at office@astardecorators.com or on 077 6178 1304.

What we collect and why

Contact forms

When you fill in one of our contact forms, we collect what you type in: your name, email address, phone number (optional), company (optional), the type of work and your message. The short office form also asks for the site postcode or town. We use these details to reply to you and to price the work.

With each enquiry we also store your browser type and the country your connection comes from, which our host works out from your IP address. We do not store your IP address with the enquiry. These details help us spot spam. We send you an email to confirm we have your enquiry, and we send the enquiry to our office by email.

Free downloads

The forms for our free PDF guides and book ask for your name, email address, company (optional) and the type of work. We use them to email you a download link (for the book, Pawel emails you the PDF himself) and to keep a record of the request. As with enquiries, we also store your browser type and the country your connection comes from. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Email updates

If you tick the box to receive occasional updates by email, we use your email address for that. You can stop them at any time by replying to one or emailing office@astardecorators.com.

LinkedIn lead forms

If you send us your details through a form on LinkedIn, LinkedIn passes us what you entered there, such as your name, email address, company and phone number. We store it as an enquiry and reply to you.

Emails and WhatsApp messages

If you email us or message us on WhatsApp, we keep what you send so we can deal with it. Emails to office@astardecorators.com are held in our Google Workspace mailbox. WhatsApp is run by WhatsApp Ireland, part of Meta, under its own privacy policy.

Site statistics and our adverts

If you click Accept all cookies on our cookie banner:

Google Analytics 4 records how the site is used, such as the pages you visit. It gives your browser a random ID, so this data is pseudonymous rather than anonymous.
Google Ads measures which of our adverts lead to visits and enquiries, and can show our adverts to you on other sites.
LinkedIn's Insight Tag measures visits from our LinkedIn adverts and can show our adverts to you on LinkedIn.
If you reached us from a Google advert, the web address carries a Google Ads click code (a gclid, wbraid or gbraid value). We keep it in your browser for up to 90 days and add it to any enquiry you send, together with the campaign tags in that web address (the utm values) and the first page you landed on. This tells us which advert led to your enquiry, so we can report that result (a conversion) to Google Ads.
When you send one of our contact forms, your email address and phone number (if you gave one) are passed to Google's tag, which scrambles them into a code (a hash) in your browser before sending them to Google Ads. Google uses this to match your enquiry to an advert click. Google calls this enhanced conversions.

Before you make a choice, and if you click Reject optional cookies, Google's tags still load, with their advertising and analytics consent settings turned off. In that state they store nothing on your device, but they send Google basic measurement signals without cookies, such as the page you are on, your browser details and your IP address. They also send one when you tap our phone, WhatsApp or email links. LinkedIn's tag does not load unless you accept. Our cookie policy lists every cookie and how long it lasts.

Why we are allowed to use your data

Replying to enquiries and download requests, keeping a record of them and protecting our forms from spam: our lawful basis is legitimate interests. Our interest is answering people who contact us about work and keeping the site safe. The tick box on our contact form records that you agree to us handling your enquiry as this policy describes. Our lawful basis for that is still legitimate interests.
Email updates: your consent.
Advertising and analytics cookies, the Google Ads click code, campaign tags and enhanced conversions: your consent, under UK PECR (the UK rules on cookies and electronic marketing) and UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a). This is separate from the legitimate interests we rely on to handle the enquiry itself.
The signals without cookies that Google's tags send before you choose or after you say no: legitimate interests in measuring how our adverts perform.

Withdrawing your consent

You can withdraw consent at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer. Withdrawing works from that point forward. It deletes the click code and the Google cookies stored under our own web address, and it stops us collecting new ones. It does not remove click codes already attached to enquiries you sent before you withdrew. To have those erased as well, email office@astardecorators.com.

Who handles your data for us

We do not sell your data. These companies handle it for us, or receive it as described above:

Vercel hosts this website and runs our forms. Our form handling currently runs on its servers in the United States.
Supabase stores enquiries and download requests in its EU region (Ireland).
Resend, based in the United States, sends our emails, such as the confirmation and download link emails and the enquiry alerts to our office.
Google (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) runs Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads, and our office mailbox (Google Workspace).
LinkedIn (LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company) runs the Insight Tag and our lead forms on LinkedIn.

Google and LinkedIn also use some of what their tags collect under their own privacy policies.

Data sent outside the UK

Some of these companies process data in the United States or the EU. Where data leaves the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK law allows, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or contract clauses approved for UK transfers. Email office@astardecorators.com if you would like the details for a particular company.

How long we keep your data

Enquiries and download requests: we keep them while we deal with your enquiry and any work that follows, and to keep proper business records. To ask how long we will keep yours, or to have it deleted sooner, email office@astardecorators.com.
When we delete an enquiry at your request, your name, contact details and message are wiped straight away. The rest of the record is removed by our weekly clean-up once 30 days have passed.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have rights over your personal data. You can ask to see it (access) or to correct it (rectification). You can ask us to delete it (erasure) or to limit how we use it (restriction). You can ask for a copy to take to another provider (portability). You can also object to how we use it (objection), including any use based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw any consent you gave at any time. To use any of these rights, email office@astardecorators.com. We will reply within the time limit UK GDPR sets.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the tools on our site change. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
