Exterior decorating. A Star Decorators

When this is the right route

  • The building is exposed to weather and the existing coating is failing: flaking, chalking, algae or breakdown at the joints.
  • Multiple substrates share the elevation (render, masonry, timber, metalwork) and each needs the correct system, not one paint over everything.
  • Access and weather windows have to be planned around, so the work needs a programme rather than a fair weather guess.

Scope · included

  • Wall, render, masonry, soffit, fascia, door and timber decorating
  • Surface preparation: cleaning down, scraping back, filling, stopping and priming to suit each substrate
  • Coating system matched to the substrate and to the exposure: masonry paint, micro porous timber systems, metalwork primers and top coats
  • Protection of glazing, hard landscaping and adjacent surfaces, with daily clean down

Scope · not included

  • Structural and joinery repairs beyond minor filling and stopping
  • Rendering and re rendering
  • Roof covering, guttering and rainwater goods replacement

Process

  1. 01

    Survey

Walk every elevation. Moisture readings on suspect substrates, adhesion check on the existing coating, photo log of the condition. Access requirement and weather window captured on the day, along with any repair that has to be resolved before painting.

  2. 02

    Specification

System per substrate: smooth or textured masonry paint to render and brick, micro porous systems to timber, primer and top coat to metalwork. Sheen level and colour agreed against the substrate. Dry film thickness and recoat intervals taken from the product data sheet.

  3. 03

    RAMS

RAMS pack written for the project with COSHH for every product, a working at height method for the chosen access, weather criteria for application, and a PPE matrix. Issued and signed off before mobilisation.

  4. 04

    Delivery

Protection up before paint comes out. Prepare, prime and coat by elevation, working to the product temperature and humidity limits so each coat cures as intended. Daily clean down. Snag list maintained live by the site supervisor.

  5. 05

    Handover

Walk the elevations, photo handover record, paint touch up kit left on site, and a record of the products and colours used for future maintenance.

Built for the people who buy decorating

Three audiences. One delivery model.

We are a specialist subcontractor, not a turnkey fit out outfit. We deliver decorating, spraying, restoration and coatings under main contractors and direct estate teams.

For main contractors

Hands on decorating. On time, every time, snags closed before handover.

Variations priced ahead of the request. Per store handover record. Handover with every snag closed. We run the way you run.

  • Active main contractor framework relationships
  • Variations priced ahead of the request, paperwork on the day it is due
  • Per zone handover record across multi store programmes

For estate + FM teams

Live trading stays live. Restoration before replacement.

Survey to handover without closing the unit. Powder coat restoration with a 5-7 year service life. Run off, masking and reopening tracked store by store.

  • Out of hours + phased delivery on rolling estate programmes
  • Photo led handover record per store / per elevation
  • DOFF, chemical and jet wash cleaning ahead of any coating

For retail estate leads

Brand consistency, store by store, on the date you promised.

Brand matched paint stacks against the estate spec. KPI reporting per store. Programme that survives shopfit slippage instead of inheriting it.

  • Multi store rolling programmes. KPI reported nightly
  • Brand matched Dulux Trade specifications
  • Repeat work relationships across Primark · Tesco · M&S

Find the right route

Domestic, retail or industrial.

Most visitors arrive with a sector problem before they know the coating system. These routes match the way buyers search: home and residential work, retail fit out programmes, and industrial painting or warehouse coatings.

Frequently asked

  • What does exterior decorating cover?

External painting and decorating to walls, render, masonry, soffits, fascias, doors, timber and metalwork. It includes the preparation and protection that the coating needs, not just the top coat.

  • Do you carry out the work yourselves?

Yes. Exterior decorating is our own in house work, delivered by our decorators under our own RAMS and supervision.

  • How do you choose the paint system?

By substrate and by exposure. Masonry paint for render and brick, micro porous systems for timber so the wood can still move and breathe, and a primer and top coat system for metalwork. The data sheet sets the dry film thickness and recoat intervals.

  • Does the weather affect when you can paint?

Yes. Each product has a temperature and humidity range for application and curing. We plan the work around suitable conditions and hold off when the elevation is too cold, too wet or in direct conditions that would spoil the film.

  • How do you prepare a weathered or flaking surface?

Clean down to remove dirt, algae and loose material, scrape and rub back failing coating, fill and stop where needed, then prime to suit the substrate before top coats. The preparation is specified per surface in the RAMS.

  • Can you work at height on a commercial elevation?

Yes. The access is chosen at survey, scaffold, tower or MEWP as appropriate, and the working at height method is set out in the RAMS and signed off before mobilisation.

  • Do you produce RAMS for exterior work?

A RAMS pack written for your project ships before mobilisation, with COSHH assessments for every product, the working at height method and the weather criteria for application. Sign off is required before works start.
