A Star Decorators

Interior decorating · Portsmouth

Commercial interior decorators in Portsmouth.

Interior walls, ceilings, joinery and detail work for retail, hospitality, healthcare and education. Designer spec literate. Substrate specific paint systems. Two pack capability where the environment demands it. Delivered across Portsmouth and Hampshire. Painters and decorators for homes across Portsmouth, Southsea and the wider area. Portsmouth has dense Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing through Southsea, Fratton and Eastney, post war housing around Cosham and Paulsgrove, and a good deal of rendered and bay fronted stock that the island setting leaves exposed to salt air and weather. Coastal exposure is hard on exterior paintwork, timber and window frames, so the prep and the choice of coating matter if the finish is going to hold up. We take on interior redecoration room by room, exterior masonry, render and woodwork picked for the exposure, and on site restoration of faded aluminium frames rather than replacement where the frames are still sound. Every job is quoted in writing before we start, furniture and floors are protected, the place is left tidy at the end of each day, and we walk the finished work with you before we pack up. Because we know what the sea air does here, we will be straight with you at the visit about what needs doing and what does not. Tell us the rooms, the outside, or the whole house and we will come and look.

Why Portsmouth

Why choose us for interior decorating in Portsmouth and Hampshire.

Track record

  • Joinery, exposed steel, plaster and masonry handled on the same scope. One decorator, one handover
  • Designer spec literate. We read the schedule, flag ambiguities in writing and never substitute a paint without sign off
  • Two pack epoxy and polyurethane capability where substrate or environmental exposure demands it

Right fit when

  • The finish needs to read as designed, not just painted. Sheen consistency and edge definition matter.
  • Multiple surface types share the space (drywall, MDF joinery, exposed steel, masonry) and need coordinated system selection.
  • The PC needs a decorator that survives QS scrutiny on the final inspection, not just the practical completion walk.

Portsmouth programme

How we run interior decorating schemes locally.

01

Survey

Substrate walk: plasterboard, MDF, exposed steel, masonry. Designer spec reviewed. Any ambiguity flagged in writing before mobilisation. Sample finish requirement agreed and cut on the actual substrate.

02

Specification

Stack per surface: walls in Diamond Matt or Sheen 4, joinery in Quick Dry Eggshell, exposed steel in two pack epoxy or PU where the environment demands it. Sheen levels agreed against physical samples, not RAL codes on paper.

03

RAMS

RAMS written for the project: dust control in occupied environments, COSHH for any solvent or two pack products, masking schedule per surface type. Issued before mobilisation.

04

Delivery

Phase by surface type: masking, prep, prime, top coats, demask. Designer or PC walks the line at each phase, not just at practical completion.

05

Handover

Photo record, touch up kit, dry film record where two pack systems were used. Live snag list cleared before sign off.

Frequently asked · Portsmouth

What clients in Portsmouth usually ask first.

Can you cope with the salt air on our exterior paintwork?
Yes. Coastal exposure is hard on coatings and frames. We prep properly and choose exterior systems that suit the exposure rather than a generic spec.
Do you cover Southsea and Cosham as well as the centre?
Yes. We work across Portsmouth and the surrounding area, including Southsea, Fratton, Eastney and Cosham.
Will I get a written quote first?
Yes. We visit, look at the real job and send a clear written quote with no obligation, and any extras are agreed with you in writing first.
Can you work to a designer's finish schedule?
Yes. We read the schedule, query ambiguities in writing before mobilisation, sample cut on the actual substrate, and never substitute a paint without the designer's sign off.
What about joinery specified in oil based finish?
Quick Dry Eggshell water based is our standard. Same hardness as oil, no yellowing, dry within 4 hours. Traditional oil based is available if the spec explicitly calls for it.
Can you do bespoke colour matching?
Yes. Pantone or RAL matched on site, sampled on the substrate and signed off before mobilisation. We carry mixing kit for minor site adjustments.
How do you specify exposed steel?
Two pack epoxy or polyurethane for industrial or high exposure environments, water based hard wearing for indoor commercial. We choose the system by exposure class.
What's the snagging process?
A live snag list is maintained by the site supervisor throughout delivery and cleared before handover. Anything that emerges after handover is dealt with as a priority.
